News: Piaget Polo S Collection
Piaget first released the Polo back in 1979, and it soon became one of the brand’s stand out pieces. Chic, sporty and perfect for the style of the late ‘70s and ‘80s, the timepiece was very much one of the must-own watches of the period, and has developed something of a dedicated following from fans of the watch since.
Now looking to the 21st century, Piaget has released the Polo S and the Polo S Chronograph—two updated versions of the classic piece, designed for a new generation of wearers of sophisticated sports watches. Set at an aspirational price point of between $9,350 and $12,400, the Polo S series is the first Piaget collection to be made in stainless steel, and is being marketed as a line of casual yet very high-end sports watches; the series was debuted at a special press event in New York, attended by none other than new brand ambassador, actor Ryan Reynolds.
Both timepieces have a 42mm cushion-shaped case that features a sophisticated brush-finished bezel, and come on a smart steel bracelet with an integrated folding clasp, designed for an easy, comfortable fit. The dials are available in silver, blue and grey for the Polo S and silver and blue for the Polo S Chronograph, and have a cool, uncluttered and highly legible design. The indices are picked out in SuperLuminova and perfectly complement the long, swordlike hands.
Where the original watch featured the 7P quartz movement—widely admired at the time—these new models boast two entirely new in-house calibres. The 110P powers the time only version, while the chronograph makes use of the 1160P. Both movements are automatic, with the 1110P offering a date display in an aperture above 6 o’clock, and the 1160P featuring two chronograph subdials on either side of the dial, as well as the date.
