Feature: Which Rolex Model Are You?

Ever needed a second opinion when buying something expensive? Maybe you were unsure about whether that rhinestone-encrusted cowboy shirt really suited you? Or whether you were too old to drive a lime-green Lamborghini. Well, the same can be said for luxury watches, too. When parting with a large sum of money, buying one isn’t a decision to be made lightly. So, to help make that crucial choice, we’ve rounded up five Rolex models and matched them to very different people. Take a look and tell us which Rolex suits you.

The Jetsetter

Have you guessed which Rolex we’re referring to yet with this title? No? Well, it’s the GMT-Master, duh! This clever and incredibly handy watch allows you to cross international borders and enter their respective time zones with ease, as it tracks several of them all at once. Created for now defunct airline Pan-Am in the 1940s, the GMT-Master lives on as one of Rolex’s much-loved models—especially those with that famed ‘Pepsi’ bezel.

The Prepared

There’s good reason why lots of watches nowadays are equipped with some level of water resistance, it gives you peace of mind that it won’t malfunction after facing a sprinkling of rain. The Rolex Deepsea takes it up a notch, though—forget to remove it before a dip in the sea? You can rest assured knowing it can handle water up to a depth of 3,900m—meaning you’re well prepared for a bit of drizzle or a full-on flood!

The Boss

Rolex’s most prestigious watch and favoured by the mega-rich and powerful—everyone from the Dalai Lama to President Kennedy to Elton John has been spotted with one—the Day-Date is the ultimate watch for CEOs and company directors. This watch, which only comes in gold or platinum, isn’t nicknamed the ‘President for nothing’. If you want to look like you’re in charge and in control, this is the Rolex for you.

The Thrill Seeker

Nothing says ‘thrill seeker’ like someone who takes to the skies, whether flying a plane or jumping out of one. The Rolex Sky-Dweller can handle both, and with this on you’ll be doing it in style. Released ten years ago in 2012, the Sky-Dweller was a totally new collection with advanced functions such as the annual calendar—which had never featured in a Rolex watch before—as well as a Ring Command bezel and GMT display.

The Man/Woman Of The People

If you’re a person of the people it makes sense that when it comes to watches, you’d wear a pared-down piece and if we translate this to Rolex, that watch would be the Oyster Perpetual. The crown’s most understated model, the Oyster range offers time-only watches with a range of different colour dials to please everyone. Rolex’s most affordable collection, this is a great entry-level watch for those after a slice of the Rolex pie.
