Feature: Baume & Mercier unveil new Rivieras at W&W for model’s 50th anniversary

To celebrate the Riviera’s 50th anniversary, Baume & Mercier has released, not one but three new 39mm Baumatic versions of its beloved Riviera, as well as two dive versions via the Riviera Azur 300m. But which collection do you prefer? Let’s find out…

Baume & Mercier Riviera Baumatic 39mm

Each of the new Riviera Baumatic models features the classic dodecagonal design of the original—released in 1973—with twelve sides, despite having an updated 39mm case.

The first version, the Riviera M0A10714, boasts a stunning smoked blue sapphire dial with a transparent wave transfer decoration. The polished and satin-finished stainless-steel case, mounted on an integrated interchangeable deep-blue rubber and alligator strap adds an extra layer of luxe.

The second 39mm model, the Riviera M0A10715, boasts a smoked grey sapphire dial instead of blue like the former model, it also has a transparent wave transfer decoration and an integrated strap with three rows of polished and satin-finished links.

Lastly, the Riviera M0A10720, is fitted with a lightweight sand-blasted titanium bezel with a central bezel ring in 5N gold-plated PVD steel. The earthy smoked grey sapphire dial with a wave effect pattern perfectly complements the integrated grey rubber strap and its casual-look canvas texture.

Although all pieces are slightly different in looks, they are powered by the Baumatic manufacture movement and run on an impressive five-day—120-hour—power reserve.

Considering the Riviera is one of Baume & Mercier’s flagship models, it’s only right that the brand pays homage to this milestone with a big release and this trio of watches certainly delivers.

Baume & Mercier Riviera Azur 300m

Continuing its celebrations for the Riviera’s 50th anniversary, Baume & Mercier has also released two new Riviera Azur models, both of which are set to become an elegant sports watch option for the summer.

Both models build on the aesthetic codes of the 1973 original Riviera, such as its classic twelve-sided bezel. It wasn’t until 1981, though, when Baume & Mercier released its first Riviera designed specifically for divers, and this year’s new Riviera Azur seems to take inspiration from this 1981 model, with an impressive water resistance of 300m.

The new Riviera Azur 300m is available in two versions—the M0A10716 and M0A10717. Both are fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel in polished and sun-satin stainless steel. The bezel features a blue or black lacquered treatment that marks the gradation of the first fifteen minutes in order to calculate those crucial diving times. The bezel is also equipped with a blue or black anodized aluminium ring to guarantee optimal use and precise handling.

The stunning dials in either blue or black (the M0A10716 and M0A10717, respectively) evoke the beauty of the Mediterranean seafloor via the smoked blue or grey sapphire with a transparent wave decoration. The models can be mounted on a steel or rubber strap, making them suitable for a variety of looks and purposes for any given day.

Both models are powered by the manufactured Baumatic movement, providing a substantial five-day—120-hour—power reserve. What’s more, you can admire the movement through the open caseback.
